Welcome to "THIS OLD FLAME": 100% Beeswax Candles Hand-Crafted in Peterborough, Ontario

Our business is beeswax - beautiful beeswax candles - the healthy and natural choice for accent lighting in your home. Using pure 100% beeswax from Ontario beekeepers, our candles come in all shapes and sizes: tea lights, votives, pillars and tapers, as well as an array of lovely containers, both modern and traditional, many of them "up-cycled." All our candles are hand-poured, hand-dipped and hand-rolled in our home. There are no scents added and no artificial dyes are used -- only organic vegetable dyes and natural dyes from herbs and spices. The white wax has been whitened using an environmentally-friendly charcoal process (no bleaching). Only cotton wicks are used. You can choose candles that are completely plain, or ones decorated with pressed and dried flowers from our garden, decoupage, or other creative designs. We take customized orders or orders from our regular product list. Check our facebook page -- This Old Flame Beeswax Candles -- for lots more photos. Please contact us at the above e-mail address or telephone number, or post a comment below, to place your order. Keep in mind -- no two candles are alike! They make wonderful gifts for any time of the year. And while they are pretty to look at, they are, of course, meant to be burnt!

Some new products

We have some new products for sale. I have started making beeswax food storage wraps, using organic cotton dipped in beeswax. These are great for wrapping up your food in the fridge or for snacks on the road, instead of saran wrap. They are made with certified organic cotton, ensuring it is produced in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner.

We have also started selling some beeswax moisturizing balm.

A paraffin glob!

Not being one to automatically believe everything I read, I decided to test for myself the difference between beeswax and paraffin candles. So I burnt a six inch beeswax taper and it burnt for 7 1/2 hours. It burnt with a clear glowing flame, with hardly any drips. Then I took a six inch paraffin taper and burnt it. It lasted only three hours -- and it gave off black sooty flames as it burned. It dripped like crazy and I was left with a huge glob in the candle stick holder, with black spots in the hardened wax! Yuck! So now I can honestly tell my customers that beeswax is better, based on personal observation!
